IN TAUNTON AND MONKTON HEATHFIELD

Is Your Child Reaching Their Full Potential?
Every child learns differently.
Some children lose confidence because the class moves on before they fully understand a topic. Others quickly grasp new concepts but become frustrated when they are unable to progress at a pace that challenges them.
At Zenshin Educational, we begin by identifying where each child is currently working. Rather than following their school year alone, we identify gaps in understanding and create a learning pathway that allows them to progress confidently from that point onwards.
Whether your child attends primary school or is preparing for the transition into secondary school, our aim is to help them become confident learners who enjoy making progress.
Learning Through Small Steps
The word "Zenshin" means progress or moving forward, and that principle sits at the heart of everything we do.
Children do not move on until they have developed a secure understanding of the level they are currently working at. Every learning stage builds upon the previous one, allowing students to make steady, consistent progress without feeling overwhelmed.
Progress is measured through regular assessments at the end of each learning level. These low-pressure checkpoints help identify when a child is ready to move forward or whether a little more practice is needed before progressing.
Rather than focusing on short-term results, we focus on building strong foundations that support long-term success.

A Different Way To Learn
Unlike many traditional tutoring programmes, Zenshin encourages children to think for themselves rather than relying on someone else to provide the answer.
Tony carefully guides students towards understanding by encouraging them to analyse examples, recognise patterns and work out the process independently. This creates a far deeper understanding than simply being shown how to complete a task.
As children experience success through their own efforts, they begin to develop greater confidence, resilience and independence, qualities that often transfer into other subjects and everyday life.
Building Confidence Every Day
Confidence develops through success.
Students complete work every day and are encouraged to achieve a high standard before moving on. Reaching 100% on daily work, combined with positive encouragement and praise, helps children develop confidence in their own ability and motivates them to keep progressing.
Parents regularly tell us that their children become more willing to tackle challenges independently, while teachers often notice increased confidence within the classroom.
A Learning Environment Designed For Success
Students attend classes in a structured learning centre environment where they work independently whilst receiving guidance and encouragement from Tony. Rather than teaching an entire class at the same pace, every student works on material that matches their current ability, allowing them to progress without feeling held back or left behind.
This approach helps children develop valuable skills beyond Maths and English. As they become accustomed to working independently, many also improve their concentration, organisation and self-discipline, all of which support their wider education.
Children are never left to struggle. If they encounter difficulties, Tony carefully guides them towards the solution by asking simple questions and encouraging them to think through the problem themselves. This helps students gain a genuine understanding and gives them the satisfaction of solving problems independently.

Measuring Progress Every Step Of The Way
Every child begins their Zenshin journey with a free assessment.
This includes a short diagnostic assessment for each subject, lasting around 20 minutes, allowing Tony to observe how your child approaches different tasks as well as identifying their current strengths and any gaps in understanding.
Parents receive verbal feedback following the assessment, together with a recommended starting point within the programme.
As students progress, regular low-stress assessments at the end of each learning level help ensure they have fully mastered the required skills before moving on. If additional practice is needed, children continue building confidence until they are ready to take the next step.
This carefully structured approach helps every student progress at the right pace whilst developing secure foundations for future learning.

Meet Tony Heywood
Tony has been working in education since 1973 and has taught in state secondary schools, independent grammar schools, Middlesex University and private tuition before developing Zenshin Educational.
After training as a Kumon Instructor in 2015, Tony was inspired by the Japanese educational philosophy of helping children progress through small, consistent steps whilst encouraging independent learning. Over time, he developed his own Maths and English programmes, combining decades of teaching experience with an approach centred around confidence, mastery and purposeful progression.
Today, Zenshin Educational continues to help children become confident, independent learners who are equipped with the skills they need both inside and outside the classroom.

"Even the school teachers have noticed the change." – Angela T. Varghese

A Student Success Story
One of Tony's former students, Kylie, joined the Maths programme in Year 2, beginning with simple addition before progressing steadily through each learning level.
After eight years of consistent study, Kylie completed the advanced level of the programme more than four years ahead of her peer group and received her Certificate of Completion before beginning her GCSE studies.
While every child's journey is different, Kylie's achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished through consistent effort, structured progression and growing confidence over time.

Arrange A Free Assessment
Every child begins their journey at a different stage, which is why we start with a free assessment rather than making assumptions based on age or school year.
During the assessment, your child will complete a short diagnostic exercise in Maths and English, lasting around 20 minutes per subject. Tony observes not only the results but also how your child approaches each task, helping to identify their strengths, highlight any learning gaps and determine the most appropriate starting point within the programme.
Parents remain involved throughout the process and receive a verbal report explaining the assessment findings, together with recommendations on how the programme can best support their child's development. There is no obligation to join following the assessment.
Whether your child needs help rebuilding confidence, strengthening the basics or progressing beyond their current school level, the assessment provides a clear starting point and the opportunity to discuss whether Zenshin Educational is the right fit for your family.
